What is a QR Code?
A QR Code (short for “Quick Response code”) is a two-dimensional image-based bar code capable of holding large amounts of information. It can be read by a smartphone camera that is equipped with a barcode reader.
What is the benefit of paying via QR code?
It enables safe and easy contactless payments between compatible devices.
Is it safe to pay through a QR code?
Using QR codes for online payment is very secure. A QR code is nothing but a tool that is used to exchange information, the data that is transferred via QR codes is encrypted.
What is an interoperable QR code?
An interoperable QR code makes it easier for you to make payments, regardless of the app you are using. It is a common standard used by the operators in a specific country or location. In Mauritius, the national interoperable QR code standard is set by MauCAS and managed by the Bank of Mauritius.
What does QR code interoperability mean for me?
It means that you can scan any MauCAS QR code and pay with your POP app. It also means that you can scan a POP QR code with another payment app provided it is compatible with MauCAS standards.
Is there a fee for customers when making a payment via a QR code?
It is free for individual customers to make payments using a QR code on POP, even if the QR code being scanned belongs to another institution.
